Caring for your Hearing Aids over the summer

Summer feels a bit hit and miss at the moment, and from reading the news this week, it's not clear if we need our coats or shorts this weekend! However, sunny days will come soon and here are some tip tips for looking after your hearing aids and your ears over the hot summer months…

1. Ensure that you store your hearing aids and batteries in a cool dry place, keeping them out of direct sun light.
2. Exposure to water can damage your hearing aids. Most hearing aids are water-resistant, but they are not waterproof! So, remember to keep them dry when visiting the beach or dipping into that hot tub.
3. Dry your ears and ear canals with nothing that’s smaller than your finger, especially before reinserting your hearing aid devices.
4. Sun creams, lotions and insect repellents can clog up your hearing aid microphones and receivers. So, it’s always best to apply these lotions and then wash your hands before inserting your hearing aids.
5. If you are outside doing any sort of physical exercise with lots of speed or motion, be mindful that your hearing aids can shift position or fall out.
